Spring and Summer are popular times for weddings, but did you know that many venues and contractors give winter wedding discounts? A winter wedding can be remarkably dazzling and enchanting! If you are starting to plan your wedding, consider a 2019/2020 winter wedding. Check out Darcy’s Winter Wedding Tips to get some inspiration:
1. Apparel for Your Winter Wedding
While strapless or sleeveless wedding gowns are gorgeous, you can freeze if you want outside pictures or even just walking into the reception! What to do? A wrap, shrug, cape, or dramatic coat can give you a romantic winter wonderland look while keeping you warm. Consider keeping your wrap snow white or create contrast by using your wedding color in your wrap. Don’t forget your bridesmaids! A romantic wrap to wear on the day of your wedding and beyond makes a great bridesmaid present.
2. Where to Have a Winter Wedding
New England is known for its gorgeous scenery and winter time is no exception! There are a wealth of venues that would make a beautiful backdrop to your winter wedding. There are historic mansions, local hotels, and even a few castles that are gorgeous in the winter. Be sure to ask what seasonal decorations the venue uses. Many venues are heavily decorated this time of year and you can save money by using their decorations. You may even be offered a discounted winter rental rate as many are eager to book events during the winter months.
3. Planning the Menu
Winter menus are amazing. You can have all your favorite food and then add some winter touches like squash or warm pumpkin soup. Consider serving eggnog, spiced wine, or hot chocolate (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) as special treats. All-white cakes, decorated with snowflake patterns, silver embellishments, or sugar sculptures make beautiful displays at the reception.
4. Winter Wedding Flowers
Silver and white flowers provide an elegant look. Look for dusty miller, silver-dollar eucalyptus, and baby blue eucalyptus, to mix with white flowers such as, football mums, crocus, lilies, and stephanotis. Red and green flowers pop if you want to celebrate the season. You can match any of your wedding colors by choosing in season flowers such as tulips, roses, and ornamental berries which will generally be less expensive choices.
5. Decor for Your Winter Wedding
Decorate tables to create a winter wonderland! Simple and inexpensive white poinsettias looked great. Fill the room with light by arranging pillar candles on a bed of pine branches. At the after-Christmas sales, stock up on strands of small white lights, then string them decoratively around doorways, over tables, and on archways. Bright red cranberries in a bowl surrounding floating candles make an easy and inexpensive holiday themed centerpiece too.
6. Favors for Your Guests
If you and most of your guests celebrate Christmas, an ornament makes a perfect favor. An inexpensive homemade favor for a winter wonderland wedding can be a pretty tin of spiced hot chocolate mix or hot cocoa mix with marshmallows. Also consider a snow globe, with a bride and groom inside, or a holiday cookie cutter with a cookie recipe attached that says your names, wedding date, and "truly cut out for each other".
